Insulation of a rainwater basin, Motorway bridge - Ittal/Saarland - Germany 2020

As part of the new construction of the A 1 Illtal / Eppelborn motorway bridge in the direction of Saarbrücken, a rainwater retention basin (RRB) was created. The requirements for the geosynthetic clay liner (GBR-C) were extreme robustness and an additional HDPE sealing layer.

The construction project comprised of extensive earthworks including the construction of a small barrier as a pre-separator. A bentonite mat with an additional HDPE 0.5 mm - EUROBENT CS 0,5 (5000) sealing layer was provided as the base and slope sealing. Total quantities used in this project: 900 sqm., in rolls 5,1 x 40m.

On top of this, the layer of nonwoven was used as a protective and separating layer. A layer of lean concrete was placed on top of the nonwoven geotextile, in which the armour stones were positioned.
