Charlottenburger Verbindungs Chanel, River bed protection - Berlin 2022

In the centre of Berlin, the restoration of the embankment and riverbed on the Charlottenburger Verbindungs Chanel (km 0,62 - 0,85) took place by replacing the stone fill in the bottom of the canal. For years, the stones had been rubbed against each other by the constant turbulence caused by the propellers of commercial and tourist ships. The concept was also to remove vegetation from the shore area and reprofile it into the shore geometry. 1,800 m2 of SandMat 600/200 was selected and installed as a separation and protection layer on the channel bottom from the stone fill. The mat was covered with rip rap stones.
